A Morrell Thanksgiving

My first Thanksgiving with the in-laws!

We decided to spend Thanksgiving break with Justin’s older sister Jodie and her family. Thus, road trip to Boise, Idaho! It started to rain on the way up and I took advantage of the gorgeous scenery and the fact my iPod was in my lap….

It was exciting to see Justin’s sister again. She had visited a couple weeks prior and we had sushi with her. But this time, I was able to visit with her husband Jared, and her adorable little boys: Henry, Cache, and Emmett. Justin’s sister Jenny was also visiting for Thanksgiving break and brought her roommate Emma. Jared’s employee (who is also our age–early 20’s) was invited.
A full house, but there were more to come!
While we waited for Justin’s brother Jason and his family to arrive, we played with Jodie’s new toy!
Needless to say, the brownies were delicious!
Finally, Jason and Rachel, and the adorable trio (Natalie, Zach, and Brady) arrived. Bedtime.
Thanksgiving morning began with a Morrell tradition: shooting!!!
Thanksgiving dinner was delicious! Full of turkey-deliciousness, green-bean casserole, lots and lots of potatoes, rolls, stuffing, and other good food. Hilarious conversation ensued. As well as a long nap after.
Chocolate chip pumpkin pie! Oh heaven!
After letting our stomachs sit for a while, the girls decided to go Black Friday shopping. Wal-Mart opened at 8pm, so we went there first to grab gifts for Jodie’s little boys. We killed it! They let us wait inside. Jodie, Emma, Jenny, and I were stationed at 4 different stacks. Everyone started grabbing things at 7:55. We grabbed what we needed and met at a register. We were out at 8:01! Bam!
Next stop was Target which would open at 9pm. This time, we had to wait outside. But, the wait was only 40 or so minutes and we were warm even though it was very cold outside.
We were in and out of Target in 20 minutes. Not only with toys for the boys, but a few things for ourselves as well. Next stop was McDonalds for a drink as well a large fries for each of us. We gossiped in the car as we stayed warm and ate. Our next place was to be Runway, a store owned by Jared. (It is kind of like Plato’s Closet, selling surplus brand names for cheaper and buying back clothes.) It has been open for about 4-5 months and we were excited to see a line at 11pm (it would open at midnight). So, we called Jared to come over. He was excited to hear about the line, so we hoped we could get a sneak peek if he would let us wait inside. Jodie was the wife of the owner, Jennie was an employee, as well as his sister-in-law. We had connections. He said no, we have to wait in line. In the cold. Dang. But once we got in, we all got some very cute shoes and clothes for at least 50% off.!
Last stop: IHOP! All 4 of us ordered something with bananas and strawberries. It was great and yummy!
Then we went home and to bed.
Friday was spent lounging around the house, watching football, and eating good food.
Saturday was Jodie’s birthday! She took the girls out for cupcakes and soda, as well as a pedicure! When we got back, we all dressed up and grabbed a babysitter for the 6 little cousins. All the adults went to a nice Hibachi restaurant for her birthday!
It was great fun watching the chef play with the food and do tricks for us. He was very nice and got all of us involved. The food was absolutely delicious and we were all stuffed. When we got back, Jared’s relatives came over for birthday cake with Jodie. It was a pretty darn good cake, too!
It was a great holiday with the Morrells and I hope to spend a lot more time with Justin’s sisters!
But, it is nice to be back home in our own bed. Our super comfy bed.
