Evelyn | Eight Months

Dear Evelyn Morgan,

Evelyn is now 8 months old. She is cruising, shadowing her big brother, teething terribly, and is still the happiest girl alive (when we're not trying to put her down for bed).

It’s finally happened–second child mommy syndrome. I’m getting this post out a week after you turned 8 months. But, we’ve been in the middle of a lot of transitions this week. You are hard-core teething, we moved, and both you and Rhys have suffered some sleep regression because of that change. But, things are finally getting settled and back into a routine now.

You still have major separation anxiety. Rhys is still your whole world. And everyone still absolutely adores you and always comments in public on how cute you are. I have to agree with them. Continue Reading

Evelyn | Seven Months

Evelyn is now 7 months old! She is crawling and pulling up!

Dear Evelyn,

Evelyn is now 7 months old! She is crawling and pulling up!

Wow! This month just passed us by. I looked at the calendar yesterday and was surprised to learn it was your 7 month birthday! You are growing up just way too fast. You are closer to one years old than you are being a newborn!

You have grown so much. You seem taller, smarter, fuller, happier. Except at night. You have terrible separation anxiety–and not just at night. You are definitely a Momma’s girl. When I leave your sight, then you start to cry. It takes forever to put you down for the night because of this anxiety. But we are working on it.

We also took another trip to Utah this month to visit Grandma. She absolutely loved cuddling you and taking naps with you. You got so much attention from Grandpa, Aunt Paige, and Aunt Madison as well. We also a day down in Nephi with Daddy’s family. Grams was so stoked to see you and hold you, as were Aunt Jana and Aunt Rachel. Your cousins spent most of their time playing with Rhys, but they were excited to meet you for the first time.

Weight: 15. 5 pounds (22nd percentile)

Height: 26.5 inches (51st percentile)

Eat | You love your food. You have about 5-6 bottles of 4-6 ounces in a 24 hour period. Sometimes you won’t finish your bottle and sometimes it takes you an hour to snack on it. You have three meals a day–a mix of baby food and table food. You really love your solids, especially fruit, carrots, and peas. You love feeding yourself and will hyperventilate if we aren’t feeding you fast enough.

Sleep | Daytime: You wake up anywhere between 6-7 am. But, if you wake up before 6 to eat, you have a really hard time falling back asleep. You take 2-3 naps a day. You are transitioning your nap times. Typically you’ll take a 45-90 minute nap around 9 am, then anywhere from an hour to three-hour nap between 1-2pm. You are also going to bed anytime between 7-8pm depending on how tired you are and your separation anxiety.

Nighttime: We try to put you down at 7, but most nights it takes until around 9:30 for you to fully settle down. Sometimes you are up that entire time, sometimes you’ll sleep for about 20 minutes, then wake up. It really frustrates us. About 60% of the time, you’ll wake up once anywhere between 1-6 am to feed. Sometimes, you’ll sleep through the night. We are working on Ferberizing and crying it out to help you go back to sleep on your own. Your pediatrician thinks you may also have gas issues and your teething (still no teeth yet) may be really bugging you.

Milestones | Movement: You are officially a crawler. You crawl all over hous and have even mastered crawling over things. You easily go from crawling to sitting to turning to crawling. You can even pull yourself up. You can’t glide yet, but you can easily pull up to stand still on your legs. In your exer-saucer, you love to bounce. Being thrown up in the air is one of your favorite things, but you hate being upside down.

Communication: Still no words. But, you are trying to clap. It’s more of a flailing arms together movement, but it’s intentional! You love to receive and give kisses. You also love to smile and coo at people. You love to hear yourself make noises, especially an inhaling gasp type of noise.

Playing: You love playing with dirty laundry (socks, burp clothes, etc). I don’t get it. You love to fling them and put them in your mouth. Whenever a sock and a toy is placed in front of you, you’ll go after the sock first. You like toys that make noise–you love swinging them all over the place to make the noise. We also have to be careful with what you play with and where you play because everything and anything will end up in your mouth–toys, pieces of wipes, trash, old food on the floor. We have to be more vigilant with keeping our floors clean now.

Personality | You still are such a content baby and a happy baby. However, you do have baaaaaad separation anxiety. If you are uncomfortable, frustrated, tired, or nervous, you’ll fuss. But, you love being social and you love giving your biggest smiles to anyone and everyone.

Evelyn, I love you so much, as do your Daddy and Rhys. We can’t imagine life without you. It seems like you’ve been part of our family forever and yet, it was just a week ago we brought you home from the hospital. Every day is a struggle for me–I want to cuddle you the entire time you are asleep, but I need to give Rhys attention as well. You are the cutest thing on the planet. Never grow up.

Love,

Momma and Daddy

Evelyn | Six Months

Evelyn Morgan is six months old: sitting up, trying to crawl, eating solids, best friends with her brother, and loves playing in the water.

Dear Evelyn Morgan,

How in the world are you half a year old already? I just barely gave birth to you, and blink, you are six months old. You are growing up way to fast for me! Please slow down. I want my baby girl for a while longer, please.

Although this past month hasn’t been the best for me, you have blossomed the past four weeks. You are trying to hit all the milestones right now–again, slow down! Everyone loves you and calls you “princess” or “baby doll”, to which Rhys responds, “Not princess, Evie!” He’s becoming fiercely protective of you and absolutely loves you. You also went swimming for the first time with us and the not-warm water didn’t phase you at all. You loved it and tried to splash the whole time. We have also transitioned you to the big tub with your brother–you use his old booster seat as a bath chair until you are better at sitting up. Again, you absolutely love being in the water and spend the whole time splashing.

Evelyn | Five Months

Evelyn Morgan turns 5 months old!

Dear Evelyn Morgan,

I can’t believe how big you are getting. Your face (especially your cheeks) are filling in, and your thighs are fattening up. Sadly, your hair is beginning to thin, and I am afraid of what will happen to your red when and if it all thins and falls out!

But, your personality has definitely begun to emerge. And, Rhys is finally beginning to give you more attention. You’ve also gone to Six Flags for the first time and went on a few slow family rides. Your eyes were just so huge and non-blinking the entire time!

Evelyn | Four Months

Evelyn Morgan is four moths old

Dear Evelyn Morgan,

You are four months old–1/3 of a year old! You still seem so small (although a church friend just had a baby 5 days ago and you are so big compared to her newborn daughter!).

A lot has happened this month: going to Utah for Easter, dealing with a lot of infections for your brother, and you getting your very first ear infection the day before we flew home! Your sleep schedule has also been off for a bit, so I think you are slipping into your 4 month sleep regression. But, despite all this, you remain the happiest, smiliest baby ever.

Height: 24.75 inches (63rd%)

Eat | You eat about 4-5 ounces every 3-4 hours. You have been trying to hold your bottle often, although, you typically end up pushing it out of your mouth. Everything is being put in your mouth now. We also gave you your first bowl of baby oatmeal. You really liked the flavor and would get mad and yell if I didn’t hurry and put another spoonful in your mouth. However, you had a really hard time figuring out how to actually use your tongue and mouth to eat it. You kept trying to grab the spoon out of my hand and succeeded a few times!

Sleep | Daytime: You are getting a bit better with your naps. You have about 3-4 nap a day, and they average about 50-90 minutes. Sometimes, your afternoon nap is about an hour, sometimes it’s still three hours. You still sleep with white noise during the day.

Nighttime: You slept through the night twice–10:30-7:00 and 11:00-6:45! Hallelujah! However, other than those two, your sleep has gotten worse. You still are put down at 7:30 with a full bottle and dry diaper. However, you wake up every now and then and need to be rocked back to sleep up until 11 when we feed you again. Then, you’ll wake up anytime between 1:30-4:00 to feed again. Then, you’ll never fully settle back down into a deep sleep. The rest of the night/early morning, you fuss and toss and turn. Which means, I’m basically up from your middle-of-the-night feeding. We are going to switch your pack-n-play into the closet in May when we are doing our spring cleaning to see if that will help. We are also going to start a 5-10 minute pause to see if you will settle yourself down. Once you gain a few more pounds, then we will begin Ferberizing sleep training.

Milestones | Tummy Time: You enjoy tummy time now. You love to be on your tummy just watching Rhys play. You are also good at turning your direction whether you are on your tummy or back. Turning 90-180* is how you much. Inchworming hasn’t even crossed your mind yet. You roll over both ways.

Focusing and Tracking: You are very good at this. You will follow any object, even small as a raisin. If you want it, you will definitely reach for it, with an excited look on your face, and your feet kicking. With your playmat, you concentrate hard and grab the hanging toys with your feet. You have even started turning your head to find who is talking.

Communication: Smiling is your favorite thing to do. You also have started to differentiate between your coos and yelps when you are bored, tired, frustrated, hungry, etc. You love socializing, especially with other kids and little girls. We have to work really hard to get you to laugh, but you have started doing it. The little girl that looks like you in the mirror is fast becoming a friend and object of interest.

Hands and Legs: You love grabbing your toys and immediately bringing them to your mouth. You have started to put weight on your legs when we stand you up.

Personality | You are a very calm and content baby, so much so that sometimes I think you have fallen asleep in the car because you don’t make a peep! However, you typically are awake when I check on you! You also are very happy when you wake up from your naps–always smiling and contently playing with your feet. Rhys, however, would always scream immediately for us whenever he woke up at that age. You love to just sit on our laps and watch the world go by.

You had a few mini-growth spurts this month and are now officially in 3-6 month clothing. You poop all by yourself now and many times a day. There have been a few times I haven’t even noticed it until I smelled it because you didn’t strain or grunt at all! You love to cuddle and have the brightest blue eys and the biggest smile I have ever seen. You are my princess and I love dressing you up. You have an auburn tint to your hair, just like me, and I pray that it stays that way.

We love you baby girl and are so proud of you (just try to sleep better at night!).
