Honeymoon!

Pretty closely after Justin proposed, we decided that we wanted to go on a cruise. So, we searched. When we went to a Bridal Fair, we even put our names in a drawing for a free cruise. We thought, “No way are we going to win this, but, hey, it’d be cool if we did happen to win it!”

Well, we found a very inexpensive, but very fun cruise to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico. We bought it and became very excited!

Then, a couple weeks later, I received a strange package in the mail claiming I won a free cruise. I wondered and wondered…could this be a farce, or did we really, honestly win that drawing? YES! It was a free cruise to the Bahamas!

HAHAHAHAHAHA! After we had already paid for our Mexican cruise, we won a free cruise to the Bahamas! So…we have the free one on hold. Maybe to use sometime in the near future (like 1 year anniversary) or perhaps sell.

But, anyway…

Friday was our wedding. Saturday was resting. Sunday, we hopped in the car and drove 10 hours to CA…well, maybe a bit more considering all the Vegas traffic. Fun. And we forgot water bottles. Joy.
But, when we got to CA, my parents had a delicious dinner of homemade BBQ chicken pizza and sliced pineapple ready for us.

Monday we headed to the cruise ship! Yaay! Our room was an inside room with no porthole. However, we had a curtain in our room. Could it possibly be? Could we have been upgraded to at least a small porthole? We drew back the curtain….and lo and behold….a wall. A plain wall hidden by the hopes of what might lay behind the curtain.

Boo! Every single time I looked at that curtain, I had the urge to pull it back and watch the sea, but no. It was a wall mocking me.
Anyway, every night for dinner, we ate at this fancy restaurant on the ship. We had this amazingly nice, cute, and funny waitress from the Philippines. She was our waitress for just about the entire cruise and always asked how our day went.

We ate at the Mardi Gras dining room. It was always set up very nicely. Always 3 course meals, plus bread! And, always delicious food.

Our first night, we met a father and a son at dinner and got talking to them. They (and our waitress) found out it was our honeymoon. So, our waitress gave us an extra dessert and sang to us. Then, our new friends ordered us some virgin strawberry daiquiris! They were freaking delicious!

That night, we also went to the “Game Show.” Justin was chosen as one of the contestants. One of the questions was about the chicken dance. Justin answered it, but before they gave him the points, they made him do the chicken dance in front of everyone. It was hilarious! I love my husband!

Catalina Island
Catalina Island is part of California. It is a small island with a small beach. But beautiful.

However, there were also very weird plants.

We went to the museum, which to be honest, sucked. We ate at a cantina for lunch, which had good food, but terrible service. We climbed trees. We waded on the beach. We talked, and talked, and talked. We talked about the history of the island, the weird plants on the island, future things, past things, deep issues, funny issues. We really got to know each other much better and on a deeper, stronger level.
It was also dress-up night on the ship. So, we decided to go to the fancy Violins Bar and get more virgin fruit daiquiris. We love our daiquiris!
Ensenada, Mexico
When we walked off the ship into Mexico, we were greeted with this huge waving Mexican flag!
We took a bus through the city up to the mountains. There, we went horseback riding! It was so fun! Justin has gone horseback riding before when he was a kid. I had only gone once before, but it was a trail-horse.
My horse didn’t like to keep up with the horse in front. So, the cowboys would make noises at it and it would trot to catch back up. That was thrilling! Even if it did trot for like 3 feet. After an hour and a half or so of riding horses, we went back to the ranch. We were served chips and salsa and we bought some carne asada tacos. They were super spicy! Spicy enough that even Justin thought they were spicy!
We also went to the beach in Ensenada and played in the waves. We enjoyed the sun and surf before getting a ride back to the ship. That night we went shopping around the ship. We also got free! sushi! Justin was super super happy!
Day at Sea
It was chilly. And windy! Super windy! Windy enough that we felt the boat go back and forth. We decided to go mini-golfing. At the very top of the ship. In the wind. That was an interesting adventure. (There was a lot of cheating!)
After we finished, we got some hot chocolate. In the middle of the day during the middle of the summer! But it was much needed.  We also had Mongolian Wok for lunch–that made Justin super happy. We also went to a “Newly Wed and Nearly Dead” game show. There were 3 couples: the longest married couple, a married couple, and the newest married couple. I had really hoped to be the newest one…by then, we had only been married 6 days…but there was another LDS couple who had only been married 4 days! (There were quite a few young, newly-wed LDS couples!) It was very funny to watch…especially knowing the younger couple was Mormon. But, the couple who had been married 50+ years was hilarious!
That night, for dinner, we took advantage of the food. Justin got a lot of seafood. I got my two favorite desserts: Cheese and fruit platter AND Warm, Melting Cake.
Oh My Gosh! They were heaven on earth!
But, our cruise ended all to soon. It was super fun and we definitely want to go on another. What a great way to begin the adventure of being married!
