Summer gets hot here in Texas. Like really hot. Like unbearably hot. Like I want to sit naked on my bed with the AC blasting and the ceiling fan whirring hot. But, that’s not possible. Especially not for a mom of a preschooler and a mobile infant. Add into the fact that I’m Mormon and have to wear special Mormon underwear that covers my entire shoulders, belly, and go above my knee! So, I can’t wear short-shorts or tank tops. And, it’s like having another layer of clothing on. But, I’ve finally found my go-to modest summer mom outfit that works for the hot Texan summers!

Now, due to medications and other health (mental and physical) issues I’ve had the past few months, I’ve gotten back up to almost the same weight I was when I gave birth to Evelyn. I’m embarrassed. I have bulges and rolls where I didn’t use to. I have huge thighs. My neck feels thick and I am starting to get a double chin. The body-fitted shirts I used to wear look embarrassing on me now, showcasing my pudgy belly. I had to go out and find shirts that worked well with my new form and shape. Thank you, Target for having a lot of these thin, loose, colorful shirts on sale during the spring. I bought like 5 of them in all different shapes and colors. They are bright, getting me away from the brown, black, tan, and gray I typically always wear. And, they are light fabric, which makes the summers here a little more bearable.

Shorts were the worst issue. Because I have to make sure they go past my garments, it’s hard to find the right length. Back in Utah, I was able to wear long jeans or capris during the summer–but it’s way to hot and humid here for that. Many “modest” shorts that other church members wore didn’t work for me because I have long legs–they were always just an inch or two too high. Then, I found Old Navy. They had some shorts that again were an inch too high, but the bottom of the legs were rolled up. So, I bought them and unstitched them and they fit! Hallelujah! But, I only had one pair of jean shorts. So I kept searching. And guess what? I found these black ones at Wal-Mart and they are the absolute perfect fit. Not only to cover my garments, but also the way they fit my mom-butt and mom-thighs are wonderful–the fabric is a bit stretchy, but still form fitting without bringing attention to any muffin top!
Of course, I have to wear sandals during the summer here. I have a black pair, a brown pair, and a white pair that I bought years ago at a store called Sole Envy. And, my hair, although I love the curls and am trying to grow it out, is in my signature hairstyle: a messy bun. I do like having my hair down, but when chasing after and playing with a 3 year old and a 6 month old, it tends to get pulled and stepped on. And, when we go out for errands, I typically carry Evelyn in a wrap, so it’s just easier to have my hair out of my way.
But, the thing I’m most happy about finding are these prescription sunglasses. I have never had prescription sunglasses before! I’ve typically worn regular sunglasses over my contacts…but when contacts stopped working with my double astigmatism and I was stuck with glasses only, I had two choices–buy prescription sunglasses (way too expensive) or just be blind with regular sunglasses. And that’s how it’s been the past few years.
So, when Glasses Shop approached me with an opportunity to review their eyeglasses, I was over the moon to oblige!
(*I received a pair of prescription sunglasses from Glasses Shop in exchange for a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own*)
I was a little leery about getting some prescription glasses online because I wouldn’t have ever tried them on and I mean, it’s online. But, when I checked their site and saw how inexpensive the frames were, I was excited to share about them! I had the chance to have a new pair of prescription glasses (which I needed) and prescription sunglasses!
Glasses Shop has a ton of different options: prescription sunglasses, prescription glasses, and bifocals. The styles and shapes of the frames are wide in variety. It did take a while to ship out…more than the estimated delivery date.
When I first tried them on, I was a little dizzy. I’ve never had prescription sunglasses before and the frames are huge. So, I’m not sure if having rounded lenses that are large and polarized affected or if something in my prescription got lost in translation. But, it took a few times to wear them for my eyes to fully settle. If I use my peripheral vision, sometimes things still look a little crossed. And, I do get some headaches after wearing them.
But, I love the design. I love being able to see with sunglasses. I love the price.
And, Glasses Shop want you to love them too! Use the special coupon code GSHOT50 to get 50% off any of their eyeglasses and sunglasses with free lenses (with the exception of sales frames)!
