Intentional December 2016 Goals

It's the last month of the year. Stay intentional with your goals in December!

It is the last month of the year. The last month to really focus on my mission statement for this year: Be Intentional, Have Contentment, and Bloom Where You Are Planted. Before I go over November’s goals and share this month’s goals with you, I wanted to look back over the year and see how I’ve done.

Overall, I think I have done a really good job keeping these things in mind. I didn’t set New Year’s Resolutions because I wanted to do monthly goals. I knew that would help me concentrate and keep my mission statement alive. Although there were some months that I did pretty poorly with my goals, as well as being content, intentional, and blooming where I was planted, I have to say that overall, I did a good job. This was a tough year: moving in with my parents, Justin losing a job, getting pregnant at a bad time (although we didn’t know it at the time), moving to Texas away from family, having a hard pregnancy. But, we’ve come through happy. I feel more content that I have in a long time. I have friends here in Texas and feel that I am blossoming. I also try to be intentional with my time…although sometimes that’s super hard this pregnancy. But, I want to consider this year a success with my mission statement.

Even though I didn’t set any resolutions, I did have year long goals I wanted to achieve with my blog:

1) I want to get all my social media platforms to at least 500 followers each. | I got close…Instagram and Pinterest are about 450 followers…but, I really didn’t focus to much on intentional growth, really, just organic growth.
2) I want to start offering different variations and levels of virtual assisting, | I signed up for UpWork and have been making about $200 a month being a virtual assistant to BeYOUtifully Made, doing some blog designing, and writing a lot of freelance articles. I’ve even opened up an Etsy shop! I know that’s not virtual assisting or freelancing, but it is a work from home “business.”
3) I want to successfully run a blogger exchange, as well as a link up. | Didn’t attempt this…I’ll try next year.
4) I want to transfer to WordPress. 5) I want to redesign my blog–on my own. | I’m putting these two together because they both did get done, but I didn’t do them. Madison from Grace and Vine Studios transferred me over to WordPress and redesigned my blog for me in February. I loved it! She also kept with me for a while after, giving me tips and advice as I helped April from BeYOUtifully Made transfer her blog over as well (and I redesigned it for her).
6) I want to improve my blog photography and image creation skills. | Organically, I have. I’m being more intentional with my photos and some easy photoshopping through online programs. I have also focused a lot on image creation skills by making a lot of prints and opening my Etsy shop.
It's the last month of the year. Stay intentional with your goals in December!

Intentional August Goals

We are entering into the 8th month of the year. What are your intentional goals?

How is it August already?!?! Seriously! It seems like just two weeks ago I was setting up my goals for July. It was definitely a busy month and I really needed to re-evaluate my year. So, I feel like I am really going to rock this month!

We are entering into the 8th month of the year. What are your intentional goals?

How I did in July

Blogging

Blog at least twice a week. | Success! I now have a lot of ideas for the blog and I can’t wait to write them!

Work at least 5 hours a week doing Virtual Assisting. | No. But, at least an hour a week. Ha. I have been putting out feelers and I think I found a second client to do Virtual Assisting for!

Health

Exercise at least 3 days a week for at least 20 minutes. | No. This didn’t happen. But, I did “workout” a lot…moving, unpacking, scrubbing, swimming, walking around the mall.

Make healthy choices with food and portions. | At the beginning of the month, I did. But, once I moved, then, we ate a lot of junk, soda, and take-out.

Family & Marriage

Enjoy the last bit of time with my family before moving to Texas. | I did. And, I already miss them!

Move to Texas and get our apartment set up. | Well, it’s about 80% done. I really just need to organize shelves and hang pictures.

Give Rhys at least 30 minutes of my complete attention, electronic free, every day. | I was half-way successful with this. But, I will be better!

Personal

Read scriptures every day. | For the most part, I was successful with this–either reading scriptures, Mormon theological books, or daily devotionals.

Finish at least two books. | Began, read, and finished four books!

Re-evaluating

It is never too late--never too late to start over, never too late to be happy. Jane Fonda. Make sure you reevaluate your goals for this year and push reset if you need to.

This summer has been hard.

I was so proud of myself the first third of this year–even though we had moved in with my parents due to financial reasons, I was being active in my goals for the year. I was positive, happy, relieved, and in a good place. Then, around the end of April, all that started to fall apart.

True, many things happened: Justin lost his job, my sister got engaged and was planning a quick wedding, my mom’s health deteriorated, my dad was switching jobs, I got pregnant, I started having terrible migraines on top of morning sickness…

I will be honest: I gave up. I gave up on trying. I gave up on my attitude. I gave up on enduring. I gave up on my appearance. I gave up on being present with Rhys. I gave up on being active. I gave up on being an intentional disciple of Christ.

I spent a lot of time on the couch, listlessly surfing the net, trying to pass Rhys off on Justin or members of my family or having him sit in front of the TV, and napping a lot.  And complaining a lot–one of Justin’s biggest pet peeves.

It is never too late--never too late to start over, never too late to be happy. Jane Fonda. Make sure you reevaluate your goals for this year and push reset if you need to.

I am truly embarrassed of my behavior, attitude, and reaction to these trials. I had completely forgotten (or disregarded?) my mission plan for the year of 2016:

Be intentional, Have contentment, and Bloom where you are planted.

None of that was happening. I wasn’t living life intentionally, I definitely wasn’t content in my position, and I wasn’t trying to bloom in our situation. I was always looking to the future. When would we have a job? When would we have a place to call our own? When will I feel better and have more energy and motivation? When will I be a better Mormon? When will blogging be fun again? When will Rhys stop watching so much TV?

The problem was, I wasn’t being active. I wasn’t searching for a solution. I was expecting things to fall into my lap.

Thankfully, Heavenly Father was looking out for us the whole time. We had been able to save up a bit not paying rent for the first half of this year. He gave Justin a wonderful opportunity (and it’s really true what they say in the job industry–it’s all about who you know) with a job that would provide a lot of opportunities for rising as well as doing what Justin loves. We were able to find a nice apartment within our means close to stores, malls, church, restaurants, and Justin’s job.

This move has been the perfect time for me to step back, re-evaluate myself and my mission for this year, and hit reset.

Moving two weeks ago was difficult–Justin and his brother drove the truck from Utah to Texas, Rhys and I flew out the last day, and we spent 12 hours (most of it sleeping) with Justin before dropping him off at the airport. He’s been doing training out of state the past 5 weeks, and still has 2 more to go. I had to unpack myself–pregnant, with a 2 year old, in a new state, without friends or family. Most days went well–my Type A and anxiety motivated me to get the house to a liveable standard. Some days were very hard–I felt so trapped and lonely and had a bad case of the green monster seeing others’ apartments and living situations. (Be forewarned–this is our living quarters for now…unpacked but not necessarily set up. It’s real and it’s raw. No photoshop. Also, those are NOT beer bottles–they are root beer and birch beer. Justin collects them.)

However, throughout all of that, I made sure to be more intentional about my and Rhys’s life:

Every morning, whenever Rhys woke up, we would cuddle in my bed while he drank a bottle. He knows that I do scripture reading in the morning, so if I don’t start, he crawls over me to the bedstand, grabs my scriptures and my devotional book and puts them on my lap. Starting each morning studying the Word of Christ really helped (even if sometimes it was hard to concentrate over Rhys watching Disney Jr on my phone).

I made sure to have breakfast with Rhys at the table–not the TV–every morning. We both would get dressed (even if “doing my hair” meant wearing a headband and a ponytail). I even made a point to brush Rhys’s teeth.

Cleaning up messes as they were made and adhering to Gretchen Rubin’s rule of “if it takes less than 3 minutes, do it”. Yes, we watched a lot of TV as I unpacked, but I also made sure to turn it off every now and then and play with Rhys. We’ve explored our new town, going to the mall to play on the playground almost every day. We’ve walked around our apartment complex getting fresh air. I’ve napped when Rhys has napped, and felt refreshed afterwards.

We make dinner together, and dance to music while we do it. Dinner is at the table while Facetiming either my mom or Justin. Then, we swim in the pool. After Rhys goes to bed, I have some more FaceTime with Justin and make a point to read at least 30 minutes before going to bed.

Numerous times throughout the day, I try very hard to keep Christ in my mind–all He’s given me, all the Grace I’ve had, all the gifts I can be thankful for, all the peace I have in my life. When I’ve felt very down the past two weeks, I’ve knelt down and poured my heart out to Him, even if Rhys is climbing over me trying to figure out what I’m doing. And, it has helped tremendously. Probably the most important thing. He has blessed me with Rhys. Rhys has taken such good care of me only as a two-year old can. When I was having a panic attack and crying my eyes out, he brought me his special blanket and popped a pacy in my mouth. When he’s seen me sad and downtrodden, he’s given me many kisses on the lips and hugs. His smiles and cuddles and laughs lift my soul. He wants so badly to help with the chores around the apartment. I could go on. Christ has shown Himself helping me through my son.

It started raining the other day while Rhys and I were on our way to Chick-fil-A for dinner. Hard, Texas rain. With lightening. I loved it. I was so excited for it. And, it brought immense happiness and peace to my heart. I thanked Heavenly Father right then and there silently. Then, I thought to myself, I should have a teaching moment with Rhys. I told him that Jesus gave us the rain and we like rain. I told him to say “Thank you Jesus for the rain.” And, in his gibberish, he did. That was a great night.

So, here I am, in the middle of the year, re-evaluating and hitting reset, just like Danica of Danikan Skywalker is.

This is the start-over that I need. With Christ at the front of my mind, and my son being my main priority, and the determination to be a supportive wife, I feel that I can keep up with my mission statement for this year.

Ever day is a new day. It is never too late to start again. It is never to late to set reset. You can do it and so can I.

Intentional June Goals

Intentional June goals. The year is half-way done, and we need to review and refocus on 2016's mission.

Being intentional during the month of May totally went down the drain. Really, doing anything during the month of May went down the drain. We have been on a roller coaster with our emotional, mental, and physical health this past month. But, we are finally pulling out of the fog. I am really hoping that June has some sunshine for our life.

Intentional June goals. The year is half-way done, and we need to review and refocus on 2016's mission.

How I Did In May

Blog

Update SEO, images, links, and Pins for at least 5 posts per week. | This didn’t happen. I didn’t even attempt to do this.

Go through my blogging resources and ebooks I’ve accumulated. | Didn’t even touch any of them.

Redo my “hire me” page to include RunPinkRunHappy’s design I created and the one I’m working on now. | Nope. Didn’t happen.

Try out a free trial of Adobe InDesign and see if it might be worth the money for the subscription. | Haha. I did download the free month trial, but I never even opened the program.

Health

Exercise for at least 30 minutes for at least 5 days a week. | I did pretty well on this….I didn’t achieve the goal, but I did workout at least twice a week.

Get 10,000 steps every day on Fitbit. | I didn’t even put on my Fitbit at all this month.

Lessen amount of carbs and dairy I eat (as well as treats). | I did well on this for the first two weeks of May, then all went down the drain.

Family and Marriage

Do whatever the future bride asks of me, and help my teenage sister (the maid of honor) host a bridal shower (I am “matron of honor” since I am married and a mom). | There were lots of opinions about the bridal shower, but it all came together and it was beautiful. I will have pictures of it tomorrow or Friday!

Go on a family walk with Rhys and Justin at least twice a week. | This didn’t happen. However, I did go on a hiking trail with Rhys once while Justin went to the driving range to play golf.

Make Justin either breakfast or pack him a lunch every weekday. | This didn’t happen for multiple reasons.

Personal

Read an LDS doctrinal article (General Conference or from the Church magazine, The Ensign) twice a week. | This didn’t happen, and to be honest…I sort of stalled on my independent scripture study…Rhys kept waking up earlier and earlier and I’m in Jeremiah and I really don’t like his attitude of doom and gloom and hatred.

Try to remember to do personal prayers at least three times a week. | I did really well with this! Yaay! But, only for evening prayers…not in the morning. I really got to get better at that.

Pay attention, participate, take notes during Church every week (and attend Church every week). | I wasn’t at church every week, but when I was, I tried my best, especially now that I am in a youth leader in my church (Laurels advisor)…and Justin and I both gave talks (“sermons” of a sort) one Sunday.

So, as you can see…I basically failed all of my goals. But, everyone is allowed to have a crappy month. And again, all will be revealed in the future as to why this month was crappy.

June 2016 Intentional Goals

  • Post at least twice a week…I barely posted at all in May, and I’m going to ease myself back into it.

  • Update my “Hire Me” page.
  • Get caught up on reading blogs….holy moly…you should see my Bloglovin feed!
  • Get caught up on my email…again, I’ve let it slide a lot this month!

Health

  • Exercise at least three times a week.
  • Make smart choices with eating.

  • Celebrate my mom’s birthday, my youngest sister’s birthday, and father’s day.
  • Do a learning activity with Rhys every day–coloring, reading, shapes, numbers, songs, etc.
  • Play a game with Justin at least once a week.

Personal

  • No griping, no groaning, no moaning, no murmuring, no complaining, no whining, no backbiting, no sharpness, no fighting back, no being stubborn, no rudeness, no laziness, no feeling sorry for myself.
  • Create church youth class presidency binders and train myself as a youth leader in my church.

Wish me luck!

Intentional May Goals

May is for being intentional. How are you going to be intentional this month?

This month was awesome! I was the happiest I’d been in a long time. I exercised the most I had in a long time. The weather was the brightest and sunniest it had been in a long time.

And, my sister got engaged and is getting married in mid-June. (She got engaged at the beginning of April and yes, Mormon engagements are fast!)

Get at least 2 full weeks ahead (this includes images, completed posts, and correlating social media scheduled posts.| It took me till the end of the month, but I did it!

Participate in a linkup every week to spread the word about my blog more. | I was about 70% successful in this.

Health

Lose 5 pounds! | I lost about 3 pounds, and I’m happy with that.

Buy a stationary bike. | We did! We actually got a $150 dual stationary bike/elliptical. We love it and it works. We’ve both used it many times already.

Family and Marriage

Lessen the amount of TV Rhys and I watch. | Somewhat successful. Rhys spent a lot of time outside because it’s been so warm, but we could still do without as much TV.

Make dinner for the entire family once a week. | I made about 3 dinners for my family and helped with a few others.

Make a budget with Justin!!! | We are trying something a little different–we are planning for upcoming expenses for that week.

Personal

Spend 30 minutes every day reading. | Maybe not every day, but I did finish 5 books this month, so that counts for something!

Put a unit plan on Teachers Pay Teachers!!!! | I actually reformatted all of my lesson plans, unit plans, and teaching resources/projects I compiled while at BYU on my shop!
