September 2017 in Review

September was a blur. Sadly, it didn’t feel like fall at all–it was just an extension of summer. Yuck, Texas. There were quite a few ups and downs. None really too far, but it was quite a hilly ride. Hitting (or not hitting) my goals this month, my physical and mental health, finances, etc.

Intentional September Goals

Making goals at the beginning of each month can help you to center yourself and be intentional for the entire month. These are my intentional goals for September.

It’s Fall! I know, I know. Technically, it’s not. But, it is September, and to me, the beginning of September = the beginning of fall. A lot has happened in August, and I’m glad for some continual routine and bettering myself. I’ve gotten the house completely set up, except for the storage closet, which we will tackle this weekend. Rhys and I have gotten into a pretty good routine of little TV, lots of playing and reading, some outdoor time, and some freelance/virtual assisting work for me…with only one day a week of having the TV be the babysitter! I’ve also gone to all three hours of church every Sunday this month, and it feel absolutely great! I can’t wait for things to just continue to improve this month!

Making goals at the beginning of each month can help you to center yourself and be intentional for the entire month. These are my intentional goals for September.

How I Did in August

Blogging

Blog two times a week. | Success! Most weeks had three posts.

Do at least two things a week to improve/edit/update different aspects of my blog. | No. I was a little thrown off by the growth of my freelance/virtual assisting clientele to focus on my own blog.

Work at least 5 hours doing Virtual Assisting. | Success for each week (I’m including freelance writing)!

Put out more inquiries and proposals for collaboration, guest posting, and sponsored opportunities. | Again, I didn’t get a good balance of my work vs. paid work, so this was a fail.

Health

Exercise at least three days a week for at least 20 minutes. | I did pretty well at this the first half of the month. But, I did work out at least one day each week.

No soda on weekdays. | I did ok on this…There were a few weeks where I gave in once during the week, but I definitely decreased my Pepsi intake.

Increase intake of water. | I have kept a water bottle with me at all times.

Family & Marriage

Do something loving for Justin every day. | I was very successful the first half of the month, but started to lag behind the second half of the month.

Spend intentional time with Rhys every day. | I was about 75% successful in this. There were some days were I worked hard to catch up on all my responsibilities and had Rhys occupy himself, but there were other days where no electronics were on and I gave the full day to Rhys.

Personal

Find more opportunities to be a WAHM. | Success! I now have 1 very good, reliable, continual freelance article writing gig, and two virtual assisting gigs! (I just hope I don’t overdo it!)

Write in my journal at least once a week. | Success! Since Rhys has done so well in nursery, I have been able to write in my journal on Sundays during the 2nd and 3rd hour and be very detailed!

Try to keep the house clean every day. | I’d like to say about an 85% success rate! Having only a 750 square foot apartment really helps!

September Goals

Blogging & Work

  • Vamp up content posts.
  • Network better and engage in friendships.
  • Update my pages and media kit.
  • Send out 3 inquiries/proposals.
  • Get ahead of blogging schedule.
  • Create a balanced schedule/routine for blogging and virtual assisting/freelancing so I don’t feel overwhelmed.

Health

  • No snacking after Rhys goes to bed.
  • Workout 3 times a week for 20 minutes a day.

Marriage & Family

  • Game night with Justin twice a week.
  • Stick to meal planning schedule for dinners.
  • Let Rhys have at least 30 minutes outside or in a big play area at least three times a week.

Personal & Religious

  • Go to all three hours of church all month again!
  • Be more intentional with personal scripture reading each day.
  • Finish Rough Stone Rolling (the only book I’m working on reading this month–it’s a big one).
  • Come up with and plan idea for the Morrell family Christmas ornament exchange.

What are your goals for this month? How are you going to be intentional?

July to September 2015 Goals

This summer was such a busy summer with a lot of technical problems, such as my laptop. So, I never got to do a recap of my July goals nor introduce my August goals.

July’s goal was to Explore My City.
Sub Goals:
– Go to the library at least twice.
We went once, but got a lot of books that Rhys really enjoyed. Even Justin got a book!
– Have a picnic twice, in different locations.
We never had any picnics.
– Visit one new place (aquarium, park, museum, local restaurant, historic site, splash pad) per week.
We did go to a few local restaurants and the splash pad, but didn’t do a lot–mainly becuase we just didn’t have the funds.
– Visit the Community building and try to get involved
This was a definite bust!
– Go to Bear Lake for the Morrell Family Reunion!!
Going to Bear Lake was the best thing this summer! It was so fun and I want to go back!
Although I didn’t really hit the goal in the ways I intended, I still feel that I achieved it. Rhys and I went running quite a bit and biking, and always took different routes. We also spent a lot of time in the park in our backyard. I also took a few de-stressing drives around the city in places I had never been before.
August’s goal was to Strengthen My Family:
Sub Goals:
– Plan a small anniversary
Check! We had my parents watch Rhys for two days while we went out to Texas Roadhouse and watched Jurassic World and slept in.
– A date a week (doesn’t have to be spending money)
This didn’t really happen. But, we did spend time together watching shows or playing games.
– Visit the temple once with Justin
Sadly, this didn’t happen. But we need to!
– Have sibling dates
I had lunch with my brother, but didn’t do anything with my sisters.
– Have deep and honest conversations with my other relatives
This didn’t really happen.
– Do learning games/adventures/activities with Rhys every day
Rhys and I have spent a lot of intentional time together. We read a lot of books, played a lot of one-on-one games. We had dance parties, explored the creek in our park, and learned a few body parts.
I kind of did really crappy with my August goals and to be honest, wasn’t the best wife. I was pretty lazy as wife and not equally yoked to my husband. I have to really be intentional and work on that.

September–Work from Home
Since I won’t be teaching after the first week of June, I still want to help earn some sort of an income–some play/date money for the family. I want to get into tutoring or small online transcription/free-lance jobs. I also want to start selling something–maybe Scentsy. I think since I will have time, also learn more about and sign up for blogging campaigns and affiliate programs.
Sub Goals:
– Find a sell-from-home job and learn all there is about it
– Find work-at-home freelancing or transcription jobs
– Join blogging campaign sites and participate in campaigns
– Join affiliate sites and learn all there is to it
– Learn more about couponing and money-saving skills

This is actually a pretty important goal as I don’t have anymore teacher income. Justin and I are a little nervous about being able to afford the rent of our townhome on just his income. So, wish us luck!
